Bible Quizzing

UV's Bible quizzers just finished a successful season! They studied and memorized the book of Matthew this year with coaches Bob and Cathy Mellen. Our 2012-13 quizzers made up four teams: Urban Lights and Shine in the Senior Division, and Salt of the Earth and Faith Fighters in the Junior Division.

Each quizzer memorized up to 89 verses every month to prepare for quiz meets, where they competed against other teams based on their knowledge of the Scripture memorized.

Besides studying God's word, Quizzers also learn new vocabulary and study skills, practice teamwork, and gain confidence speaking before an audience.

So What is Bible Quizzing All About?

Bible quizzers memorize Scripture and meet every month to compete by answering questions on the verses they've memorized. Quizzers must know the Scripture and be able to jump quickly to answer. Teams strategize ahead of time to decide which team member will answer which types of questions, based on personal strengths.

Every month, each district's teams gather for a Quiz Meet. Our district includes 17 Senior teams and 11 Junior teams from Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. At Quiz Meets, teams compete against each other in several different rounds. At the end of every meet, scores are tallied and rank is given both for individuals' personal scores and for team scores.

Urban Vision's Quiz Meet
On February 9, 2013, Urban Vision hosted a Quiz Meet! The division's teams met to quiz here all day: Senior in the morning, Junior in the afternoon. At noon everyone gathered for worship (led by our L.I.T.C. band) and a message (let by Micah Matthews). Volunteers ran a snack shop out of the kitchen all day, and between competitions quizzers played basketball in the gym.

Thank you to all who came to support our quizzers and help us host our fellow teams!
