Urban Vision
began implementing Economis in summer 2011 as a way to teach our
students how to become financially responsible. Actual Urban Vision dollars
that the students earn are credited to their Economis accounts.
Students can save, invest or spend their "dollars" based on real world
consequences- they even pay "taxes". This gives the students a more
active role in how they use their U.V. dollars. The "money" that is used
in Economis may not represent actual dollars, but for our students, the
consequences, good or bad, mean real world lessons. A loss in Economis means a gain or loss of U.V. dollars. To
date, the students have embraced the Economis system with excitement,
and are beginning to show what they have learned by the choices they
