In our new series called, Get to Know the Staff, we’ll do just that – learn a little about each of our staff members. This week it’s Jordan Fairfax. Read to learn more about Jordan, what he does at Urban Vision and more.
How long have you been with Urban Vision?
I have been on staff at Urban Vision for 5ish years.
What are my responsibilities at Urban Vision?
As I tell most people it varies depending upon the day. One day I am the camp director and the next I am cleaning rooms to prepare for our school stores. This is what I love about our staff – everyone chips in with many things. My official title has me doing a lot of work with the banquet and camp.
When you’re not working at UV, what is your favorite way to relax?
I have to figure out when I am not at UV first. When I am not there I spend time with family and friends. I am into games, both sports and board. We are an active family and have been digging climbing at Rock Mill and swimming lately. We tend to lean to the nerdy side and also like movies and dressing up in costumes and using our imaginations. We also like to see God’s creation on hikes or by traveling.
Favorite movie or TV show?
This is one of the worst questions to ask me. I have a large and diverse collection of media. Some of my favorites include things like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Clue, Goonies, and other 80’s-90’s classics. TV shows: I don’t watch a lot of new shows but enjoy things like Chuck, Breaking in, Arrested Development, Hell’s Kitchen, Firefly, and Sports.
Scripture verse that holds a lot of meaning for you?
The Bible is the short answer. The long answer seems to be whatever I am reading at the moment. Currently, I have been going back through the three waves that came back from exile and the genealogies are what seems to stick out to me and talk about hope, promises, faithfulness, and God’s Goodness. I know right the first person to ever talk about liking those sections most skip over, but I think about how we build credibility and momentum for movements we start name dropping and it reminds people that others have stories that motivate and God uses imperfect people to fulfill His perfect plan.
How is God working in your life right now?
Work-wise I am riding a high from seeing our camp staff use their stories to help 30+ campers commit or re-commit their lives to Christ. As a leader that is one of the best gifts you can witness is the next generation of leaders take the mission and begin to work it. Personally, the reminder of intentionality and being purposeful.
What is/are the reason/s you love most about working at UV?
I like our mission and the people we serve. It is a great joy to live and work in the area that we do.
Get to know more of our staff at our 26th annual fundraising banquet on September 24th.
This year’s theme is “Leading a Legacy” – focusing on Urban Vision’s development of today’s youth into tomorrow’s Christ-focused leaders. 2 Timothy 2:22 – “And what you have heard from me, entrust to faithful people, who will be able to teach others also.”
Please join us as we celebrate God’s faithfulness over the past year, and prayerfully present how we feel God moving in the year to come.
