Our Beginning Urban Vision was founded in 1992 by Jodi Matthews and a group of committed volunteers. After a number of years working with urban children in Bible club settings, Jodi felt God directing her to pursue a broader ministry that included outreach to the whole family. As a child, Jodi listened to her grandmother talk fondly and passionately about teaching children the Bible under an Akron bridge. Little did Jodi know that she would be called to the same community where her grandmother taught so many years ago. This Akron community was Elizabeth Park.
"Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations..." ~Isaiah 58:12
Restoring the Vision
God’s vision for Urban Vision is broad and exciting. Prayerfully and through caring relationships, Urban Vision seeks to reach North Akron’s children and their families with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Urban Vision strives to come alongside the whole family and commits to disciple them as they walk with Christ. Just as Christ desires to see all of His children prosper, so Urban Vision desires to develop North Akron’s youth into godly leaders of their community. Urban Vision approaches children holistically and prayerfully, modeling a love for God, a love for others, and a love for their community.
"Where there is no vision, the people perish."
~Proverbs 29:18 Where We Are Now
| More than 20 years later, Urban Vision is deeply invested in the North Hill / Elizabeth park community. This introduction to Urban Vision from Fall 2012 gives an overview of our current ministry for Christ! |
