Urban Vision Philosophy of Ministry
Urban Vision seeks to be Christ centered, Evangelical and Incarnational in everything. Urban Vision purposes to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a holistic approach through Christ centered programs and through meeting the spiritual, emotional and social needs of the people within the North Akron community. Therefore, Urban Vision staff purposes to live, listen, and serve within the neighborhood in order to have a better understanding of community needs.
CHRIST CENTERED: All ministry activities are founded upon and integrated with the Word of God and seek to glorify the Lord Jesus. Our desire is to meet felt needs and build relationships that will impact in the individual's life and community deeply. This is in obedience to God's greatest command - to love God with all of our heart, soul and mind, and then to love our neighbors as ourselves. Matthew 22:36-39
EVANGELICAL: We are not ashamed to be identified with the Risen Living Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We proclaim the good news of forgiveness of sin through Jesus Christ's death, burial and resurrection at every opportunity. Romans 1:16, 1 Corinthians 15: 3-4
INCARNATIONAL: “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us…” John 1:14. God did not just say "I love you" from a distance, but demonstrated His love by becoming a man. Urban Vision seeks to reside in the community of focus in order to understand the people’s needs and exemplify Christ in our daily lives. Ephesians 2:13-22
Christian Community Development Principles Urban Vision purposes to practice Christian Community Development principles: reconciliation, relocation, and redistribution. We aim to network with churches, organizations and individuals to promote positive change that takes place from within the North Akron community. Urban Vision purposes to promote dignity by advocating self-sufficiency rather than perpetuating dependency. We strive to partner with the local church who shares a common concern: to see people reached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and discipled in their growth into mature believers.
RECONCILIATION: Urban Vision desires to build relationships across racial and economic barriers. Reconciliation takes place through relationship with Jesus Christ and with the community. 2 Corinthians 5:18-21
RELOCATION: Urban Vision purposes to have its staff reside in the community with the people it serves. Urban Vision desires to be salt and light and model a relationship with Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 5:13-14
REDISTRIBUTION: Urban Vision seeks to redistribute resources coming from the body of Christ to individuals within the community-therefore empowering them with the tools and gifts needed to become the person God intended. Philippians 4:18-19
