Weekly Opportunities

We hope this outline will provide you a good first step in deciding where God might use you.

*Available during the summer
 
 Kids’ Club*
  • Description: Urban Vision’s elementary outreach program to approximately 150 3-year-olds through 5th graders (similar to a VBS / Kids' Church structure)
  • How: Help Kids’ Club leaders guide children through different interactive activities, build relationships with them, and share God’s love with them. Volunteers may also help run gym activities or the craft room.
  • When: Fridays, 3:30 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.
  • Age Requirement: 7th grade and above
  • Commitment: A weekly commitment is preferred and most effective, but not required.

Set on Success (S.O.S.)*
  • Description: Urban Vision's after-school program that helps 87 K-12th graders set their life on success through individualized learning plans
  • How: Help students with one-on-one reading, computer lab, basic math, homework help, college prep, vocational training, financial literacy, gym, or electives
  • When: Mondays through Thursdays, 2:15 – 6:00
  • Age Requirement: High school and above
  • Commitment: A weekly commitment is most beneficial for both helpers and children.  A weekly commitment is required for class leaders.

Providing and serving dinners*
  • Description: Urban Vision serves dinner during many programs as a part of our commitment to a holistic approach
  • How: Provide and serve dinners to 50-150 kids (number and ages depend on the program). Menu suggestions and other help are available. Just ask!
  • When: Mondays through Fridays; times are dependent on which program/day
  • Age Requirement: 11 years old (supervision required for high school and below) and older
  • Commitment: Only once is necessary, but most groups provide weekly or monthly

Beacon Christian Learning Center
  • Description: Urban Vision's new school, set up similarly to a homeschool group, and designed to help strongly motivated students bridge educational gaps caused by learning disabilities and language barriers
  • How: Help teach lessons or tutor students to provide supplemental help with their assignments
  • When: Mondays through Fridays, school hours
  • Age Requirement: 25 years old and older, teaching or tutoring experience preferred
  • Commitment: a weekly commitment is required
 
  • Description: Legacies of Success is a nonprofit organization that provides critical services in North Hill by offering affordable housing in the community to promote ownership and dignity
  • How: Participate in a variety of work projects such as painting, drywalling, plumbing, etc.
  • When: work days every Saturday, but open to scheduling other work days
  • Age Requirement: 18 years old and above (unless supervision is provided)
  • Commitment: one-time or ongoing projects available

 
 Share your passion*
  • Description: Feel called by God to share your passion with others? Urban Vision is always open to new ideas and starting new programs that meet the needs of our community
  • How: Contact us - we’d love to sit down with you and talk about your idea
  • When: Days and times are flexible
  • Age Requirement: 18 years old and above
  • Commitment: Varies
Serve on a Committee*
  • Description: Urban Vision's Board of Directors leads a variety of committees, such as Fundraising and Maintenance
  • How: Help committee leaders support and implement projects and events
  • When: Days and times are flexible
  • Age Requirement: 21 years and above
  • Commitment: Monthly meetings, and projects in between
 
 Help with our Facility*
  • Description: Between the size of the building, the age of the building, and the amount of kids that go through the building each week, Urban Vision is always in need of significant help
  • How: Help with maintenance (electrical, plumbing, etc.), cleaning (vacuuming, dusting, etc.), and remodeling (painting, drywalling, etc.)
  • When: Days and times are flexible
  • Age Requirement: 18 years old and above (unless supervision is provided)
  • Commitment: one-time or ongoing projects

 Office Help*
  • Description: Urban Vision welcomes volunteers who enjoy serving God by helping out in the office
  • How: Help with various administrative projects such as stuffing envelopes and nametags, data entry, and research
  • When: Weekdays between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. (anytime in this window)
  • Age Requirement: High school and above
  • Commitment: one-time or ongoing projects are available
Prayer*
  • Description: Urban Vision firmly believes in the power of prayer
  • How: Pray for Urban Vision staff, children, volunteers, and community
  • When: Always!

Collecting Receipts*
  • Description: Acme's Community Cashback program donates a percentage of your receipt to Urban Vision
  • How: Collect Acme receipts that say "Community Cashback" on them and turn them in at UV
  • When: Throughout the year
